SHOOT NATIONS - Picture Power
WINNERS
It is with great pleasure we announce the winners of Shoot Nations 2007. It was an extremely difficult choice and whilst judging we have attempted to represent the broad range of countries and backgrounds represented, as well as taking into account different styles of photography and creative interpretations.
The overall winning photograph has been chosen for the strength and positivity of its message. We loved the simplicity of the image and above all the creative concept, which both captures and overcomes the struggle to be seen and heard. The central fisted hand is a powerful symbol and shows the possibilities of breaking boundaries and defeating life’s obstacles.
The Light-Box presentation to the United Nations in New York City will take place on Friday 10th August 2007 for International Youth Day.

JUDGES
Five esteemed judges deliberated over a shortlist of 130 photographs in 9 categories, whittled down from 1500, at the Plan Offices in Camden.
The Judges were:
Roger Allen, Daily Mirror photographer (former photographer of the year).
Maitreyi Maheshwari, Curator of Youth Programmes at Tate Modern.
Hamish Mackenzie, Schools Development and Marketing Officer at Plan UK.
Brett Jefferson Stott, Director of Shoot Experience.
Hannah White, Events Manager of Shoot Experience.
Quote from Maitreyi Maheshwari:
“Shoot Nations has created an opportunity for young people around the world to visually present the issues that concern them. Sometimes that vision can be stark or haunting, joyful and funny but nothing is trivial or taken for granted. The extraordinary variety and the quality of the images submitted reflects their determination to be seen and heard.”
